Arkansas schools cancel after-school activities, dismiss early due to severe weather threats on March 14

Due to severe weather threats expected to hit Arkansas around 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Thursday, a couple of schools in the area have canceled after-school activities.

ARKANSAS, USA — The 5NEWS weather team has categorized March 14 as a Red Weather Alert Day

Due to severe weather threats expected to hit Arkansas around 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Thursday, a couple of schools in the area have canceled after-school activities. 

Lavaca High School has canceled tonight's baseball game against Greenland. 

The Van Buren School District has canceled parent-teacher conferences scheduled for this evening, as well as all district activities. All Van Buren schools will also dismiss at 2 p.m. on Thursday. 

Elkins School District has also announced it will dismiss K-12 early at 2 p.m. on March 14. PreK classes will be dismissed at 2:15 p.m.

The Community School of the Arts in Fort Smith will close at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. The school has also canceled a preview performance of "Something Rotten" for this evening.
