Matt Standridge says goodbye to 5NEWS, moves on to forecast weather at Indiana sister station

Farewell, Matt!

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — It's with a heartfelt and bittersweet goodbye that 5NEWS sends Matt Standridge off to forecast the weather at the station he grew up watching, our TEGNA sister station in Indiana, WTHR Channel 13.

Matt started his 5NEWS career in 2017, starting as a weekend and then morning meteorologist. He spent a year at our TEGNA station in Ohio, then returned to Hog Country in 2021 to lead the 5NEWS Weather Team.

Although he has family in the River Valley, Matt grew up in central Indiana where he dreamed of forecasting the weather since he was a little boy.

While Wednesday, Feb. 14 will be his last day on air, on Monday he announced his plans to move on.

"My time at Channel 5 is coming to a close. Our company TEGNA is promoting me to the job that elementary school Matt dreamed of having. This company has repeatedly bent over backward for me. They value their people here and open doors when they can," Matt said in his announcement post.

Everyone here at 5NEWS is equal parts proud of Matt and hopeful for what to expect next for our weather team.

"Thank you for sharing this little piece of heaven with me," Matt said about 5COUNTRY.

If any viewers make their way to the Indianapolis area, make sure to tune in to Channel 13 to see a familiar face!
