One thousand runners take Fayetteville trails for new 120-mile relay race

The first annual Ragnar Trail Arkansas race made its debut in Fayetteville on Friday, April 19.

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — One thousand runners hit the trails at Centennial Park in Fayetteville on Friday, April 19, for the inaugural Ragnar Trail Arkansas.

At the two-day event, teams of eight will run approximately 120 miles on three loops winding through Centennial Park and Kessler Mountain.

Participants will run through the day and night while camping in a temporary tent city in Centennial Park.

Hundreds of teams flocked to the park for the event, including Fayetteville locals and people from all over the country.

Organizers said the race is not competitive – it's about making memories.

“We think about it in terms of having a great adventure with your friends, with your family [or] with your coworkers,” said Ragnar Spokesperson Michael Bowcut. “You're accomplishing something pretty important that you work for and you train for to accomplish, and you're doing it together.”

While this year is the debut for the race in the Natural State, Bowcut said it is going to be an annual event in Fayetteville.

“You've got these great mountain bike trails, these single track trails that are wonderful for trail running,” Bowcut said. “We've wanted to come here for quite a while.”

Registration for Ragnar Trail Arkansas 2025 will open May 1. You can register to run on the Ragnar website.
