Semi-truck crash leaves 2 dead in Franklin County, police say

State police said the semi-truck was headed westbound on I-40 when the crash happened.

FRANKLIN COUNTY, Ark. — Two people are dead after a single-vehicle crash in Franklin County, according to a crash report by the Arkansas State Police (ASP). 

According to Cindy Murphy with ASP, the crash occurred on Sunday, May 5, at around 4:57 a.m. 

ASP stated a 2024 Kenworth semi was headed westbound on I-40 when it drove off the road and "struck the center pylons at the Pleasant View Road overpass." 

The driver, David B. Jernigan Jr., and the passenger, Loren B. Smallwood, both died as a result of the crash. The crash report said the two were from North Carolina.
