Majority of power outages restored in the River Valley and Northwest Arkansas

According to the Crawford County Emergency Management, a fire was reported in trees due to power lines being hit during the storm on May 7, 2024.

ARKANSAS, USA — Power outages have been reported throughout Crawford County after a tornado warning was issued early Tuesday morning.

According to the Crawford County Emergency Management, a fire was reported in trees due to power lines being hit during the storm that hit toward the end of 2 a.m. and going into 3 a.m.

At around 3:15 a.m., Arkansas Valley Electric Cooperative reported over 3,400 customers with their power out, and over 2,600 people without power covered by OG&E. Those numbers remained steady throughout the early morning until around 1 p.m. when the numbers started to improve. 

OG&E released a statement saying overnight severe storms knocked out power for around 38,000 customers, with around 6,500 still out of power as of 11 a.m. According to the statement, over 1,000 workers are out trying to restore downed power lines and broken power poles. 

By the next day, May 8, the majority of the power outages had been restored with Crawford County going from more than 5,000 people without power to 400.

Damage reported:

Strong winds throughout the River Valley were reported with many damage reports.

Crawford County:

  • N Highway 59 between Cedarville Fire and Crawford County Motor Speedway tree down, blocking one lane
  • Trees and powerlines down on Highway 64 adjacent to Crawford County Sheriff's Office
  • Trees uprooted on Macedonia Road
  • Tree down on Maple Shade and Rudy Road intersection in Alma

Franklin County:

  • Reports of power lines down on East Market Street, less than 2 blocks from EOC
  • Minor street flooding in the city
  • Tree down across Highway 215, 5 miles north of Mulberry near Plymouth Road (9200 block)
  • Large tree down across Highway 64 at Pudding Ridge Road
  • Tree down on White Valley and Wire Road intersection

Sebastian County:

  • A tree reported down on a house on McClain Road, no injuries were reported
