Results are in for Sequoyah, LeFlore County elections

Earlier today voters in Eastern Oklahoma were able to cast their ballot on multiple issues and candidates.

OKLAHOMA, USA — Earlier today voters in Eastern Oklahoma were able to cast their ballot on multiple issues and candidates.

Sequoyah County

In the City of Sallisaw, two council members seats were filled. For the Commissioner Ward 2 seat, Josh Bailey won at 52% of the vote, with Steven Hatcher at 48%. Bailey got 58 total votes while Hatcher got 52.

For the Commissioner Ward 4 seat, Brad Hamilton beat out Jeannie Lynn Richardson with 52% of the vote and 48% of the vote respectively.

Hamilton received 67 total votes while Richardson brought in 63.

Additionally, the Central Public School District approved a $705,000 bond issue to fund school improvement projects.

The bonds will fund gym renovations as well as the creation of a new agriculture education program which would include a new classroom and shop for students, according to Central Public Schools Superintendent David Eads.

The bond issue passed at 69% of the vote, with 213 votes for the issue and 97 against.

LeFlore County

For Poteau Public Schools, the Board Member - Office No. 4 position was open. Gary Hecht got 49.3% of the vote, while Ramona Smith got 24% and Tony Riley got 26.5%.

Hecht got 357 votes, Smith got 174 and Riley got 192. Because none of the candidates got 50% of the vote, a runoff election will be held between Hecht and Riley to determine who gets the role.

For Pocola Public Schools, the Board Member - Office No. 4 position was also open. Terry Smith took the seat with 51.6% of the vote, while Gaylon E. Freeman got 10.8%, and Ronnie Jon Piovesan got 37.4%.

In total, Freeman got 38 votes, Smith got 185, and Piovesan got 134.

Additionally, voters in the Bokoshe School District approved a $255,000 issue to be used to repair the roof of the high school. The issue passed at 76% of the vote, with 74 votes for the issue and 23 against.
