LITTLE ROCK (KFSM) — A Little Rock law firm that challenged Issue 7, also known as the Medical Cannabis Act, which led to its disqualification from the November ballot, issued a response Friday (Oct. 28) explaining why they filed the lawsuit.
Kara Benca and her husband, Patrick, are partners at Benca & Benca. Kara Benca is listed as the petitioner on the lawsuit that challenged the signatures collected to get Issue 7 on the ballot. The Arkansas Supreme Court ruled in her favor Thursday agreeing that some of the canvassers working for Arkansans for Compassionate Care did not meet state guidelines.
In their statement, the Bencas state they are for full marijuana legalization and believe Issue 6, which is the other medical marijuana measure on the ballot called the Medical Marijuana Amendment, is the better proposal and is more likely to pass because unlike Issue 7, it does not allow patients to grow their own plants.

Issue 7 supporters will be holding a rally outside the Washington County Courthouse Saturday (Oct. 29) at 2 p.m. Arkansans for Compassionate Care is also seeking an appeal of the Supreme Court decision.
