Benton County deputy dies on Thanksgiving, was battling COVID-19

Deputy Joshua Pierson had been with the Benton County Sheriff's Office for over a decade.

BENTON COUNTY, Ark — A deputy with the Benton County Sheriff's Office died on Thanksgiving. 

Lt. Shannon Jenkins confirmed the news that Deputy Joshua Pierson had passed away. She confirmed that Pierson had been battling COVID-19. 

Several local police departments have shared their condolences on social media.

Pierson had been with the Benton County Sheriff's Office since 2012 and was assigned to the Judicial Division, according to Lt. Jenkins. 

A memorial service will be held for Pierson on Thursday, Dec. 2 at 11 a.m. The service will be held at Cross Church Pinnacle Hills in Rogers. It's open to the public.

A funeral procession will start at the Benton County Sheriff's Office parking lot in Bentonville at 9:45 a.m Thursday. 

The procession will loop through the Sheriff’s Office back parking lot and exit out the East Gate (Law Enforcement Gate). The procession route will turn east onto SW 14th Street and proceed to North Walton Boulevard. At North Walton Boulevard, the procession will turn north and proceed to West Central Avenue. It will pass through Downtown Bentonville, Benton County Courthouse, Benton County Administration building, and then proceed on West Central Avenue towards I-49. 

At I-49, the procession will head south towards Cross Church. The procession will take Exit 83 (S. Pinnacle Hills Pkwy. / W. New Hope Rd.) and enter Cross Church at S. Pinnacle Hills Pkwy. And W. New Hope Rd.
