1 arrested after shootings in Crawford County that left 2 dead

The suspect has been identified as 25-year-old Cooper Wesley.

CRAWFORD COUNTY, ARKANSAS, Ark. — A suspect has been arrested in Crawford County in connection to two shootings that left two people dead, the Crawford County Sheriff's Office (CCSO) says.

Officials confirm the shootings took place in Alma on Saturday, Nov. 4 at around 12 p.m. The suspect has now been identified as 25-year-old Cooper Wesley.

CCSO says deputies responded to the first shooting at 11:57 a.m. in the 800 block of Chitwood Street. The victim was identified as 57-year-old Terry Brasuell. He was taken to a nearby hospital where he later died, according to officials.

At around 12:07 p.m., officers responded to the second shooting on Muscadine Lane. According to CCSO, the second victim who was found dead at the scene has been identified as 47-year-old Donald Lewis. Officials say Wesley did have a prior relationship with both of the victims.

Deputies later located Wesley on Highway 159 north of Van Buren in a Nissan pickup truck at around 1:36 p.m., police say. During the stop, Wesley admitted to having guns in his vehicle. Police then patted him down and found a pistol in his pocket. Wesley was taken into custody with no bond.

In the interview, officials say Wesley admitted to shooting both Lewis and Brasuell. He also said he had gone to Walmart that morning to buy clothes "specifically for his mission," according to police. Crawford County Prosecutor Kevin Holmes says he has been charged with two counts of capital murder. Holmes says that sentence could be 10 to 40 years and there is the possibility of the death penalty.

Police say this was an isolated incident where the victims were targeted by Wesley, and the public was never in danger.
