Jury convicts 28-year-old Oklahoma man for sexually abusing child

The trial began on Wednesday, Oct. 18, and the jury came back with the guilty verdicts the following day.

LE FLORE COUNTY, Okla. — A federal jury in Oklahoma convicted 28-year-old Daniel Matlock of Pocola on charges related to the sexual abuse of a minor.

According to the United States Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma, Matlock was found guilty of one count of sexual abuse and one count of sexual abuse of a minor. The trial began on Wednesday, Oct. 18, and the jury came back with the guilty verdicts the following day.

Evidence presented by the U.S. at trial accused Matlock of sexually abusing a minor under the age of 16 within the boundaries of the Choctaw Nation Reservation in February 2019. DNA evidence was presented that supported the victim's testimony during the trial, officials said.

"The guilty verdicts were the result of investigations by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the District 16 Violent Crimes Task Force, and the Pocola Police Department," the U.S. Attorney's Office said in a statement.

Matlock's sentencing has not been scheduled.
