Did a meteorite hit a home in Greenwood, Arkansas?

There were reportedly no electrical lines in the area, and it seemed as if the fire started from the ground up.

ARKANSAS, USA — A family in Greenwood found themselves asking, 'Did a meteorite really just hit us?' after they woke up to a fiery hole in their deck in the middle of the night.

What could it have possibly been? We sent the 5NEWS weather team to check it out firsthand:

There were clear skies over Greenwood when the Devane family said they woke up to smoke filling their house. They couldn't find a fire inside, but they did find one outside... in the middle of their deck.

Making things even crazier— The Devanes say that most of the fire had been put out when the side of their hot tub melted, pouring water onto the flames.

Firefighters were reportedly speechless when they came by later: there were no electrical lines in the area, and it seemed as if the fire started from the ground up.

Could a meteorite have really punched through the deck, and sparked a fire?

The family says they found a magnetic rock the size of a Reese's Peanut Butter Cup inside the crater when they were searching through the debris with a magnet.

Meteorites might not have been predicted in that night's forecast, but if you want to stay up-to-date on the storms in your area, check out our interactive radar.
