FAYETTEVILLE (KFSM)- Thousands of veterans, whose final resting place is at the Fayetteville Cemetery, were honored with a wreath ceremony at 11 a.m. Saturday (Dec. 13).

Hundreds of volunteers started early with 7,400 wreaths inside three trucks. Volunteers then helped decorate the cemetery with wreaths.

The guest speaker was Army Veteran Ronny Sweger. He served from 1993 to 2007 when he was medically retired from the Army due to combat injuries. He served multiple tours with Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom as a Special Forces Senior Engineer.

During the ceremony, there was a helicopter flyover in remembrance of the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War. There were also Civil War re-enactors in honor of those who died and the 150th anniversary of the Civil War.

The Ozark Highlanders played their pipes at the ceremony and the Fayetteville High School A Cappella Choir performed the National Anthem.
