SPRINGDALE (KFSM) - A nationwide effort to bring law enforcement and the public together has made its way to Springdale.

Tuesday (Aug. 4) night, the Springdale Police Department was one of many law enforcement agencies that held a night out to show their support for the community.

“It gives us the opportunity to have positive contact with citizens in Springdale,” said Lt. Scott Lewis, PIO for the Springdale Police Department. “Most times, people call us because they are not having a good day. So, when we have an opportunity to have contact with the citizens of Springdale on a positive note, which is a win for us, and a win for the city.”

Some families said the atmosphere was an attractive feature of the event.

“It is something to get the kids out with the family. It had good information here,” said Carrie Wright, an event attendee who brought her two children. “Policemen are just people like us, and they are here for us. It gets the kids to be more familiar around them, and ask whatever questions they may have.”

The Wright family was one of the many who attended the event. Ayden Wright even had his first photo identification card made for free.

“We had to take a picture of your thumb. And, it had a scanner, and you had to wait for your ID to come out,” Ayden Wright said.

The event was completely free, and even had plenty of giveaways. Those in attendance received free hot dogs, ice cream, and much more.

The night wrapped up with a screening of a movie.
