Springdale Mayor Doug Sprouse will be joined by churches and other community leaders at a special prayer breakfast at 6:30 am on Thursday (May 1), according to a news release sent out today.
The breakfast will be held at the Holiday Inn Convention Center of northwest Arkansas, and it will be the 5th annual local non-denominational observance of the National Day of Prayer. There will be scripture readings, prayers and inspirational music from Springdale residents.
Registration and a breakfast buffet begins at 6:30 am, the program starts at 7:00 am and everything concludes at 8:00 am.
A record number of 700 people attended the event last year.
“The Prayer Breakfast has become an important part of celebrating the National Day of Prayer in Springdale. It’s an opportunity for all in our community to come together and seek God’s blessing on our City and nation,”Mayor Sprouse said.
“We are excited about this year’s involvement of many of the Springdale churches. They are committed to supporting this event and are helping to facilitate many of the aspects including ticket sales, programs and more,” said Mike McFarland, Committee Chairperson.
Speaking at the event will be Dr. Gary Oliver, Executive Director for Center of Relationship Enrichment at John Brown University. He is a psychologist, author and college professor.
The proceeds from the event will benefit the local charity Youth Strategies, according to the news release. It’s a local faith-based organization, based at the Jones Center for Families, that helps young people deal with obstacles and helps them achieve academic and career success.
