Human remains found at Lake Eufaula in Pittsburg County, Okla., are ancient according to investigators with the Oklahoma State Medical Examiner’s office.

The bones could be anywhere from 200 to 2,000 years old, KOTV in Tulsa reports.

The ME’s office was able to make that determination based on marks on the teeth that are consistent with the type of food ancient humans ate.

The bones were discovered because a drought caused lake levels to recede. Pittsburg County Sheriff Joel Kerns told KOTV investigators found a cable with a cinder block near the remains, but that appears to have been just a coincidence.
