WASHINGTON COUNTY (KFSM) – High voter turnout and ballot glitches delayed Washington County's early voting results almost five hours Tuesday night, as officials released their first numbers at 12:15 a.m. Wednesday.

Washington County election workers had to recount votes Tuesday night because of an electronic ballot glitch from the first day of early voting that complicated the vote-counting process on Election Day, officials said. In that situation, an electronic glitch left party affiliations off of local ballots. The software problem was fixed for the next day.

By the time first numbers were reported from the county courthouse, some early voting figures were still outstanding, leaving about 3,500 votes yet to be counted, according to election workers.

Nearby Benton County released its early voting numbers at 9 p.m. Its final numbers were released around 12:20 a.m. Wednesday.
