FORT SMITH, Ark. — A man charged in the death of a Fort Smith runner in July 2015 will appear before a trial court.

John Suleski, 25, has been scheduled to have his case heard in a trial setting, during the week of October 3, 2016.

He was determined to not have any mental disease or defect at the time of the incident. Suleski had been scheduled to appear before a trial court in early March, but his defense team filed a continuance motion, requesting a mental evaluation.

Suleski was charged in shooting Brent Morrison, who had been on a run in Fort Smith on Wells Lake Road. He was charged with one count of first-degree murder and one count of unlawful discharge of a firearm from a vehicle.

Prosecuting Attorney Daniel Shue had stated that Suleski shot Morrison from the back seat of his vehicle. Investigators said Suleski was in the back seat because he had planned to take his own life.

Morrison’s wife Diane has planned the Brent Morrison Memorial Run, which will begin Saturday (July 9) on Wells Lake Road at 6:30 a.m. For more information on the event, click here.
