POTEAU, Okla. (KFSM) - Prom is a night to remember for thousands of local high school students as they celebrate with friends.

In LeFlore County, one prom in particular is shaking things up by holding an event entirely for those with special needs.

You'd be hard pressed to find any differences between "A Night To Remember Prom" from any other.

The tuxes, dresses and even limos are all in sight, but it's the special needs people in them who are making the difference.

"We wanted them to be able to have a special night, because maybe they don't have a social life," says Barbara Leonard, who works for the local Special Olympics organization. "We've got people all the way up to 60-years-old here tonight, that are in homes or nursing homes. So this night is very special for them."

For parent Rhonda Wollaston, it's the first time her son has been to prom, and she knows it'll be a night Willie won't soon forget.

"This makes him feel just a little special because he has a date," says Wollaston. "He will talk about this for years to come."

Leonard says it's a humbling experience to see the community come together to support people with special needs and give them a night entirely dedicated to themselves.

"Tonight is the most priceless night for me. It's the most humbling thing I've ever done," says Leonard "It makes me appreciate life, but to be able to give back and pay it forward, money could not buy the happiness that is here tonight for me."

"A Night To Remember" proms can be found throughout the country.
