LeFlore County Sheriff Rob Seale said Monday (Aug. 12) county commissioners will lower the speed limits on roads in the northern part of the county due to constant complaints of speeding in the area.

Most are dropping from 45 mph to between 30 and 35 mph. The condition of the county roads also contributed to the change.

“I just don’t want another fatality on our roads,” Seale said.

Currently, unmarked county roads are 45 mph after a resolution passed in Oct. 2011.

Once signs are posted the change will take effect immediately and the sheriff’s office will be working speed enforcement heavily on those roads.

Below is a list of roads affected by the change:
Calhoun Road – 35 mph
Carters Lake Road – 35 mph
Nubbin Ridge Road – 35 mph
Old Bokoshe School Road – 30 mph
Church House Road – 30 mph
Prairie Bell Road – 30 mph
Hudson Corner Road – 40 mph
Racetrack Road – 35 mph
Fruit Farm Road – 30 mph
Ogden Mill Road – 40 mph
