JOHNSON COUNTY (KFSM) – The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office announced on Friday (June 5) that it won’t make any arrests solely for openly carrying a firearm.
Instead, it will look at each case individually and “make a determination on whether or not an arrest for carrying an openly displayed weapon should be made based on evidence of criminal intent.”
The Pope County Sheriff’s Office made a similar announcement on Wednesday (June 3).
This and other recent open carry announcements from area law enforcement agencies come after Attorney General Leslie Rutledge said she believes open carry is legal under Arkansas law.
