FORT SMITH (KFSM) — A new interim fire chief will begin his work on Saturday (April 30).
Retiring interim fire chief Terry Bigler serves his last day on Friday (April 29), and assistant chief Phil Christensen will fill his position.
Christensen has served with the Fort Smith Fire Department for 24 years was appointed to assistant chief by Bigler.
The retiring interim chief replaced Mike Richards, who had retired in October 2015.
Christensen will serve as the fire chief while the search for fire chief continues. He has also submitted his name for consideration for that position.
