LITTLE ROCK (KTHV) — A new five-member commission appointed Wednesday (Dec. 7) will administer and regulate the licensing of medical marijuana dispensaries and cultivation facilities in the state.

It’s a task Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson didn’t want to be faced with, as he was a vocal opponent of medical marijuana. Disagreements aside, he, along with the House Speaker and Senate President Pro Tempore, said the will of the people had spoken and they did their best to select the group of commissioners.

Hutchinson selected Dr. Ronda Henry-Tillman, a Little Rock breast cancer surgeon. House Speaker Gillam appointed Stephen Carroll, a pharmacist from Benton, and Travis Story, a lawyer from Fayetteville.

Senate President Pro Tem Jonathan Dismang chose James Miller, a former Senate chief of staff from Bryant, and Dr. J. Carlos Roman a pain specialist from Little Rock. Governor Hutchinson said the focus on medical experts was needed because he wants people to remember that it’s a medical marijuana commission.
