WASHINGTON COUNTY (KFSM) – An Elkins man inside a holding cell at the Washington County Detention Center busted a ceiling sprinkler and flooded the floor of his cell while waiting to be booked into the jail, deputies say.

Cameron Jones, 22, was arrested by the Lincoln Police Department on Oct. 2 and faces charges of residential burglary, theft of property, possession of drug paraphernalia, failure to pay fines and cost and destruction of vital public property, according to the jail’s intake report.

Jail staff were attempting to take a booking photo of a female inmate when they heard a sprinkler being hit in one of the holding cells. The sprinkler head was broken, and the fire alarm started going off as water “gushed” from underneath the holding cell door, according to an arrest report.

The female inmate was told to go sit down while deputies arrived to assist in the situation. Blankets were placed on the floor in front of electrical equipment to keep water from damaging electronics, the report states.

Jones was the only person in the holding cell where the sprinkler was broken. He was demanding to be let out, booked in and given a phone call before the sprinkler was busted. He was told several times that jail staff were waiting on his paperwork before he could be booked in and given a phone call. After the sprinkler was broken, he was escorted from the holding cell to a restraint chair. No further incidents involving him occurred, according to the report.

He was eventually booked in on Oct. 3 at 1:04 a.m., according to the jail’s intake report.

Lincoln police responded to a home in the 400 block of Miller Street on Oct. 2 in response to a call about a residential burglary. When they arrived, they spoke with the victim who said her house had been burglarized, and she was missing a Playstation 2 and multiple laptop computers, the report states.

Police then spoke with a second victim at a residence on Hembree Avenue who said her home had been broken into, and she was missing some prescription drugs that belonged to her granddaughter. The second victim’s neighbors told police they saw a white man with a black backpack leaving the home. They described his clothing, and police started searching the area for him, according to the report.

Authorities found Jones in the parking lot of a nearby Dollar General, and he matched the description given by the second victim’s neighbors. He even had a black backpack, the report states.

The backpack was searched, and inside multiple computers were found. Another bag that Jones had with him contained the missing prescription pills reported by the second victim, a Playstation 3, six grams of marijuana and a set of digital scales, according to the report.

The Playstation 3 was determined to belong to a third victim Jones burglarized, police said. That victim called authorities while they were talking to Jones.

Jones confessed to burglarizing three homes and was taken to the Washington County Detention Center, the report states.

He is being held on a bond of $1,160, and his next hearing is scheduled for Nov. 5 at 7:45 a.m., according to the jail’s intake report.
