BENTONVILLE (KFSM) - The city of Bentonville is providing its annual leaf collection service starting Monday (Dec. 1) at 8 a.m. Any bags placed on curbs after that time are not guaranteed to be picked up.

Resident Ann Meythaler said she appreciates that the service is free. She said she's been working on getting her yard cleaned up for weeks.

"It's such a big deal, the leaves track themselves into the house, and it's just a huge mess and then we're trampling through it with the snow and when everything gets soggy and gross, so it has been a big deal to make sure that we stay ahead of it," Meythaler said.

City officials said they will only go through each neighborhood once. They said there aren't any specific requirements for what kinds of bags residents put their leaves in, but said they will not be picking up twigs or branches.

Bob Harris has lived in the Sherwood Forest subdivision for 20 years. He said he loves the big oak trees in his yard, but said they make a lot of leaves.

"That's a great service, it really is and they do a good job, you don't even know when they've been here they just come out and all the bags are gone."

For people who may not have time to bag leaves by 8 a.m. Monday, the city also has a compost facility where people can drop their bags. The facility is open Tuesday-Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Harris said he will be utilizing both options.

"We used the compost facility until they started picking up, but of course this year we'll have to go back to the compost facility because all the leaves fell late this year I guess," Harris said.

City officials said the service only applies to residential areas--- commercial properties and apartment complexes are not included.
