FORT SMITH (KFSM) - University of Arkansas Fort Smith student group Lions Reaching Out Advocating Responsibility (ROAR) will host an event on campus today to bring awareness to the dangers of binge drinking.

The event is called Burgers and "Beer", but organizers say the name was meant to catch the attention of students on campus. The group will actually be serving root beer with the burgers.

Students attending the event will get to take part in several activities that are meant to show them how drinking too much can be harmful to themselves and others.

"We feel that it's important to teach students about alcohol safety, " said Stephanie London, Student Activities Coordinator, "While it is kind of a social norm that college students drink, not everyone does, but for those that do, we want to make sure they have the means necessary to do so safely."

One activity is a trivia game in which students will take "shots". If they get a question wrong, they have to pour a shot glass of water into a cup. At the end, they will be able to see how much alcohol they would consume.

"It's just to educate them on the realities of what it is that they're doing sometimes if they're in an environment where they are drinking, " said London, "Kind of, just teaching them a safe way to go about that."

The event goes from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Bell Tower on campus.
