Jury convicts man for first-degree murder of Fayetteville 47-year-old in 2020

Steven Rice has been found guilty of murder, according to Washington County Prosecutor Matt Durrett.

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Steven Rice, who was charged in 2021 for killing a man and dumping his body in Fayetteville, has been found guilty of murder, Washington County Prosecutor Matt Durett confirmed to 5NEWS on Wednesday.

On the morning of Aug. 12, 2020, Fayetteville Police Department (FPD) officers responded to reports of a body found in a wooded area near Robinswood Lane, according to court documents.

FPD said the body, later identified as 47-year-old Mario Miller, had appeared to have been "dumped" there. The night before, multiple witnesses told police they saw an unusual car being parked nearby.

Rice was charged with first-degree murder and tampering with evidence on May 19, 2021. The jury trial began on Feb. 27 and he was found guilty of Miller's murder the next day.

The jury has not yet come back with sentencing, Washington County Prosecutor Matt Durrett told 5NEWS on Feb. 28.
