BENTONVILLE, Ark. — On Saturday, April 27, the City of Bentonville informed the public via social media about a natural gas leak.
The post said that an evacuation was not necessary and that the Bentonville Hazmat team was monitoring the situation alongside Black Hills Energy.
The leak was reported near the intersection of Hwy 112 and SW Gator Boulevard, causing roads to close and traffic to be rerouted. The city said that a smell could be noticed in the area and later clarified it was an additive.
The city first posted about the leak at around 7:30 p.m. and by 10:30 p.m., the city said that additional Black Hills Energy crews from Fayetteville went to assist the repair.
"Bentonville Fire Department Hazmat crews and Black Hills reps continue to monitor the areas around the leak. There has been no gas detected in any of these areas outside of the main leak," the post said.
At 1:35 a.m., the city updated its post saying the leak was shut off and contained. The city said roads were reopened and emergency crews were still "on the scene to monitor."
