The folks at Sparks Regional Medical Center in Fort Smith are reminding everyone that a healthy lifestyle starts at an early age. The 9th Annual Kids Triathlon is taking place on Saturday, August 29th. Children ages 4-14 will compete against each other – running, swimming and biking for a chance to win prizes.

The event is hosted by the Marvin Altman Fitness Center. Bob Harper, the event coordinator, says past events have drawn up to 100 kids, many of whom come back year after year.

“The coolest thing I’ve seen is kids who started doing this when they were 8-years-old, and now they’re much older and have graduated to our indoor triathlon. So it`s really nice to see these kids develop, and my goal is to get these kids involved in this to continue to do triathlons as they age,” Harper said.

Kids must provide their own helmet, bike and running shoes. It`s $25/participant, and the regular registration goes through August 15th. All proceeds go to the Gregory Kissler Treatment Center.
