Roland man sentenced for maiming someone with electric saw

Investigators say that on April 23, 2022, Blanton-Barnes broke into the victim's home while they were sleeping and attacked them with an electric saw.

ROLAND, Okla. — A Roland resident has been sentenced for breaking into someone's home and attacking them with an electric saw.

Morgan Cameron Blanton-Barnes, 24, was sentenced to 19 years in prison for maiming and first-degree burglary.

Investigators say that on April 23, 2022, Blanton-Barnes broke into the victim's home while they were sleeping and attacked them with an electric saw.

The victim suffered from severe lacerations to the back of their skull and hands, a release from the Department of Justice (DOJ) said.

Court documents say Blanton-Barnes was originally indicted on additional counts of assault with a dangerous weapon and assault resulting in serious bodily injury.

The crime occurred in Sequoyah County and within the boundaries of the Cherokee Nation Reservation.

An investigation was conducted by the Roland Police Department, the Sequoyah County Sheriff's Office, and the FBI. Blanton-Barnes pleaded guilty to the charges on Dec. 14, 2022.

“The facts of this case are shocking, and the sentence imposed is a clear message that the justice system will hold violent offenders accountable for their heinous crimes,” said United States Attorney Christopher J. Wilson.

Blanton-Barnes will not be eligible for parole, the release said.
