Fort Smith police arrest registered Oklahoma sex offender for trafficking meth

Fort Smith police said Xavier Haynes was arrested with five pounds of meth, an ounce of cocaine and "various THC products."

FORT SMITH, Ark. — A registered Oklahoma sex offender was arrested with "a substantial quantity of illegal narcotics," the Fort Smith Police Department (FSPD) announced on Wednesday, Nov. 15.

Authorities say 47-year-old Xavier Haynes was arrested on Nov. 13 with approximately 5.1 pounds of meth, 1.1 ounces of cocaine, and various THC products.

According to a press release, on that day, the Narcotics Unit of the Fort Smith Police Department was informed that a package "with a considerable amount" of meth would be delivered to an address in Fort Smith.

Police took action and set up "surveillance" at the address until the package was delivered according to the release. When police opened it, it was confirmed to contain meth. While officials were going through the package, officials say Haynes arrived in a taxi to pick up the package which he did not find. Police then placed the box back at the address and waited. Eventually, Haynes returned 45 minutes later and "collected" the box, the release says.

Police then confronted Haynes and arrested him for trafficking a controlled substance. Haynes was taken to the Sebastian County Adult Center for booking according to the release. FSPD said he's also facing charges of violating parole.

Haynes is currently being held at the Sebastian County Adult Detention Center. His arraignment has been scheduled for Nov. 22 at 10 a.m. and being held on a $15,000 bond.
