Police release new info about Lake Fayetteville shooting that killed 1, injured 4

Police said video footage of the shooting showed a large number of cars and people gathering near the lake for a fight before the gunshots began.

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — The Fayetteville Police Department has released new details of the shooting at Lake Fayetteville on Feb. 15 that ended in one death and four injuries.

Gilberto Gordillo, of Springdale, was arrested in connection to the shooting at Lake Fayetteville. He was booked into the Washington County Jail on Feb. 21 on one count of capital murder and four counts of attempted murder.

Officers were dispatched to the Lake Fayetteville Environmental Studies Center after 11 p.m. on Feb. 15 and found 18-year-old Christian Alexander Rodriguez-Barroso dead, and four others injured with gunshot wounds, according to FPD.

Police said video footage of the shooting showed a large amount of cars and people gathering near the lake for a fight. At some point during the fight, people can be seen running away to their cars as guns are fired, police said.

Rodriguez-Barroso ran toward the exit and jumped into the bed of a truck as the video showed another man shooting at him, according to FPD. Rodriguez-Barroso fell from the truck and landed in the street as the alleged shooter got into a car and drove off.

Witnesses reportedly told police they saw Gordillo with an "AR-15 style rifle" before the shooting, and two witnesses allegedly said they saw him using the rifle to shoot at cars leaving the fight.

Everyone involved was between 18 and 20 years old, FPD Sgt. Stephen Mauk said.

Police said Gordillo told another witness that "he thought he had killed someone" and had been sick in the days following the shooting.

"There are unfortunate incidents like this in any type of community our size. But overall, this is a very, very safe community," Sgt. Mauk said.
