ASP confirm heavy police presence in Johnson due to pursuit; suspect in custody

Arkansas State Police and Johnson PD were on the scene and directing traffic at Johnson Mill Boulevard near I-49 at around 5 p.m. No major injuries are reported.

JOHNSON, Arkansas — A heavy police presence at Johnson Mill Boulevard on Dec. 20 is now confirmed to be related to a police pursuit with a suspect now in custody. 

According to Cindy Murphy, the public information officer for Arkansas State Police (ASP), the chase ended in a crash on Johnson Mill Boulevard near I-49.

The suspect's vehicle crashed and involved three civilian vehicles. No major injuries are reported but one civilian did sustain minor injuries, according to Murphy. 

ASP couldn't confirm where or how the chase initially began. 

Around 5:00 p.m. traffic was backed up due to a heavy police presence just outside the Johnson Mill Boulevard exit at I-49. Both ASP troopers and Johnson Police Department officers were on the scene. 

5NEWS reached out to Washington County Sheriff's Office who said that ASP would be investigating.
