Former MLB outfielder Monte Harrison to walk-on for Arkansas football team, reports say

According to reports, former MLB outfielder Monte Harrison has committed to join Sam Pittman and the Arkansas Razorback football team as a walk-on.

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — According to reports from On3, former MLB outfielder Monte Harrison has committed to join Sam Pittman and the Arkansas Razorback football team as a walk-on.

Harrison who is 28 years old and spent several years playing professional baseball — three of those seasons being spent in the MLB — will reportedly join the Hogs as a wide receiver.

Back in 2014, the former MLB pro was a 4-star football prospect and the 7th ranked football player in Missouri according to 247Sports at the time.

Harrison posted a player rating of 90 on 247Sports as part of the 2014 class, receiving offers from schools like Michigan State, Indiana, and Kansas before signing with Nebraska.

Despite signing with the Nebraska college football program in 2014, Harrison was drafted in the second round of the MLB Draft that same year and opted to instead pursue a career in baseball.

Harrison was drafted with the 50th overall pick in the 2014 MLB Draft by the Milwaukee Brewers, but didn't make his major league debut until 2020 during his time with the Miami Marlins.

Harrison will now be joining the Hogs who saw a fair share of struggles last season as they finished with a record of 4-8. In the time since, the Razorbacks have seen a noticeable shake-up to their roster and staff, namely with the departure of QB KJ Jefferson, the return of Bobby Petrino, and the arrival of transfer QB Taylen Green.
