NEW YORK (WHNT) – Derrick Henry won the Heisman Trophy for the 2015 season.

Alabama’s Derrick Henry, Stanford’s Christian McCaffrey, and Clemson’s Deshaun Watson all attended the ceremony as finalists.

Henry rushed for 1,986 yards this season, averaging 5.9 yards per carry, scoring 23 touchdowns, and pushing his team through the SEC into the College Football Playoff.

McCaffrey’s claim revolved in part around breaking Barry Sanders’ single-season record for all-purpose yards (3,250). Sanders set that record back in 1988. McCaffrey racked up 3,496 all-purpose yards on the season. Stanford won the Pac-12 in large part because of McCaffrey’s excellence.

Watson led his team to the top-seed in the College Football Playoff, going undefeated, including a win in the ACC Championship Game. Watson completed just under 70% of his passes for 3,512 yards. He also carried the ball for 887 yards, scoring 41 total touchdowns.

Derrick Henry finished with 1,832 points in the voting.  Christian McCaffrey pulled in 1,539. Deshaun Watson got 1,165.
