VAN BUREN (KFSM) - Construction's just about to wrap up on a new police headquarters going up in Van Buren. Crews are just putting on the finishing touches before officers move into the new facility.

Construction workers have come a long way at the police department with the inside of the building almost done.

Construction first started on the $3.6 million facility back in March of last year. Since then, construction crews said they've worked non stop on the building to make sure everything stays on schedule.

All that's left now is pouring the concrete out in the parking lot, laying the black top, and landscaping the outside of the building. Workers are also laying down tile floors inside the building and installing new lighting.

The new headquarters is being built along Highway 59 which officers said will help them cut down on emergency response times.

Once construction wraps up, the new headquarters will give officers access to a training room, a workout facility, a bigger holding cell, and more office space.

The Van Buren Police Department said they love the new look of the building. " The size of the building and the modern look of this building is going to here for many years," said Lt. Stephen Staggs. "We've been able to see it from the ground up and it's just going to be great for the department."

The Van Buren Police Department said the community is who to thank for the facility. " The community is really going to be excited for the department," said Staggs. "They're going to be proud of their police department."

We just can't thank the citizens enough according to Lt. Staggs.

Crews said all of the work should wrap up at the end of February. Officers will then move into the building in March.

The Van Buren Police Department was approved after a one-cent sales tax increase was passed by voters last year.
