WASHINGTON COUNTY (KFSM) – A Washington County man is behind bars after authorities say he stabbed another man in the back during a fight at the Cincinnati Mall earlier this week.

Leon Cardinal, 35, of Summers, was arrested early Tuesday morning on suspicion of aggravated assault and second-degree battery, according to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office. He remains in the Washington County Detention Center awaiting a bond hearing.

Deputies responded around 2:10 a.m. to a home in Lincoln concerning the stabbing. Deputies said Cardinal confronted the stabbing victim about money at the Cincinnati Mall in Washington County while the victim was dropping someone off at the location.

Cardinal threatened to cut the man, and during the ensuing fight, the suspect stabbed the victim in the back, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

The fight was broken up, and the victim went back to his home in Lincoln, where he called police. Responding emergency crews transported him to Washington Regional Medical Center, where his status is unknown.

Cardinal has a court date set for Friday in Washington County. His arraignment is scheduled for Oct. 8, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
