Six Arrested On Suspicion Of Bringing Contraband Into Carroll County Jail

BERRYVILLE (KFSM) — Six people were facing charges Tuesday (Sept. 22) on suspicion of bringing contraband into the Carroll County  Detention Center, according to a release from the sheriff’s office.

Inmates Brock Boren, Cody Sansom, Christopher Maritan and Robert Periman, as well as two other individuals, Pamela Thompson and Julie Orman, were arrested on suspicion of various charges listed below, the release states.

The investigation began on Sept. 16 when an individual came to the detention center claiming to be there to repair a phone in the inmate area of the jail, but jail staff contacted the phone vendor and found a service technician had not been dispatched to the jail, according to the release. The phone vendor also notified the sheriff of suspicious phone calls to and from certain inmates at the jail, the release states.

A review of inmate phone calls and emails showed Thompson and Orman conspired with the four inmates to bring prescription drugs into the detention center, according to the release. Video recorded inside the jail showed the women arriving in the jail lobby where one of them went to the women’s restroom, the release states. The video then shows Maritan going into the restroom area and later sliding contraband under a jail pod door to another inmate, according to the release.

The sheriff ordered a shakedown of the involved jail pods to ensure no contraband remained and a drug screen of the involved inmates showed the presence of narcotics in their systems, the release states.

Procedure changes have been made to prevent similar security breaches from happening again, according to the sheriff’s office.
