FORT SMITH, Ark. — The AMC Classic Theater in Fort Smith officially closed at the end of April.
After rumblings on social media about the theater suddenly closing over the weekend, the AMC Classic website page now reads "AMC CLASSIC Fort Smith 14 Has Permanently Closed" and forwards users to their nearest location, AMC Fiesta Square 12 in Fayetteville.
The 14 theater multiplex located on Towson Avenue shuttering leaves the Malco Theater as the only place people can see new movies in Fort Smith.
The closure comes as many large theater chains struggle to bounce back after the pandemic and also deal with more new releases being offered on streaming services.
