Adventure Arkansas: Lost Bridge

This week we go on Arkansas's version of a search for Atlantis! Sean Bailey takes us on his search for the "Lost Bridge."

In this week's Adventure Arkansas, we went in search of the Lost Bridge near Garfield. The Lost Bridge Trail north took us around nearly 5 miles of scenic bluffs and over looks to view Beaver Lake.

In addition to the rock formations dotting along the trail, there's history nestled in these woods. Portions of the Schrader Homestead Settlement take you back in time to the early 1900s, shedding light of the lifestyle of rural residents of the Ozarks.

The namesake of the Lost Bridge Trail dates back to the late 1920s. Construction of the bridge was almost ready for completion and vehicle traffic. However the Great Depression left the funds to finish unavailable. A new bridge was built upstream, and the "Lost Bridge" was toppled by a flood in 1943.

After over 2 hours of searching for the bridge, we read the back of the post that says it's been submerged in Beaver Lake for the past half century.

Oh well. The hike and the sights were definitely worth it.
