A major flooding event is underway across much of our area. Numerous roads and low water bridges are impassable. Most creeks, rivers, & streams are swollen and at capacity. The severe weather threat from tornadoes and damaging winds is over. The worst of the flooding on the Arkansas River will happen on Monday night into Tuesday. There is a lot of cover. Here are some of the need-to-knows…

Current Forecast

The area of low pressure causing some of the heavy rain is swirling NE and will exit the area with rain chances over around 10 or 11pm tonight.

The Arkansas River will hit Major Flood Stage Monday into Tuesday

This will be the biggest flood of the Arkansas River since 1995. This flood is just 5 feet away from the all-time historic record. Residential & Business flooding is likely. Lee Creek will flood nearby camping areas and mobile home parks. County Roads in Ozark and Coal Hill near the Arkansas River will be inundated. This is a life threatening situation and if you live in and around the Arkansas River be prepared to move to higher ground.  Here is the current information regarding Arkansas River Flooding….

The Flood Warning continues for
The Arkansas River at Van Buren
* until further notice, or until the warning is cancelled.
* At 2:00 PM Sunday, the stage was 23.60 feet.
* Flood stage is 22.0 feet.
* Minor flooding is occurring and Major flooding is forecast.
* Forecast…The Arkansas River at Van Buren will continue rising to
near 33.0 feet Tuesday before dawn then begin falling.
* Impact…At 33.0 feet, damaging flooding occurs along the Arkansas
River floodplain from Moffett, Oklahoma downstream to Lock and Dam
13. The port of Fort Smith and nearby businesses are flooded.
Backwater flooding occurs in the trailer parks next to Lee Creek.
Some residential subdivisions around Fort Smith are flooded. This
is an extremely dangerous and life threatening situation.
