Rogers Swimmers Get Special Visit

Three-time Olympic Swimming Gold Medalist Rowdy Gaines visited the Rogers and Rogers Heritage Swim Teams last Friday.

The Rogers and Rogers Heritage Swim Teams had a special visitor last Friday.  Three time Olympic Swimming gold medalist Rowdy Gaines came to their swim practice to talk about his swimming experiences.

"It was really cool." Said Rogers Freshman Katherine Ross.  "He talked about a lot of dedication and how you have to stay healthy and exercise.  It was overall really cool."

Gaines was in Northwest Arkansas promoting his company LIMU.  Often times when he travels he likes to give back to the communities he is visiting. He likes to visit children's hospitals and he also enjoys speaking to youth swimmers about the importance of dedication, perseverance and achieving goals.

"I try to tell them to never give up on your dreams." Said Gaines.  "We all have dreams and if you can realize  that a lot of people care and love about you, you will be okay."

At the end of the speech Rowdy had a surprise for the swimmers.  He brought one of his Olympic Gold medals from the 1984 Los Angeles games for them to hold and look at.

"When I had it in my hand I was like wow." Said Rogers Heritage Junior Samuel Schaefer.   "It’s a big deal to have an Olympic Gold medal in your hand especially from Rowdy Gaines."

Gaines also impressed the swimmers when he told them he was flying to have dinner with Michael Phelps later that evening.
