FAYETTEVILLE (KFSM) – The player best known for hitting the 3-pointer that gave Arkansas its only basketball national championship has now joined the Razorbacks’ coaching staff.

Scotty Thurman will be added as an assistant to Mike Anderson’s staff Friday night after spending the past six season in an administrative role with the university. Thurman also provided color commentary to the Razorbacks’ radio broadcast. Bob Holt of the Arkansas Democrat Gazette first reported the change.

Thurman was a member of the 1994 national championship team and it was his 3-pointer with less than a minute left that helped the Razorbacks defeat Duke. Thurman and Arkansas reached the title game again in 1995.

Current assistant coach Matt Zimmerman is being put into an administrative role.

Thurman will join assistants T.J. Cleveland and Melvin Watkins on the bench.
