Razorback softball falls to Central Arkansas 2-1 in Monday night battle

The Bears scored two runs with two outs in the sixth inning to pull off the upset over the No. 9-ranked Hogs.

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — In a rare Monday night game at Bogle Park, the Arkansas softball team fell to in-state opponent Central Arkansas 2-1.

It marks just the second loss at home this season for the No.9-ranked Razorbacks, as the team drops to 19-4 on the season with the defeat.

The key frames were the fourth through sixth innings.

The Hogs took a 1-0 lead in the first on a sac fly by Rylin Hedgecock, but were unable to extend their lead.

Crucially, Arkansas had bases loaded with one out in both the fourth and fifth innings, but left both innings without any runs.

That came back to haunt them in the sixth inning.

In the sixth, UCA tied things up on a two-out passed ball that scored Jenna Wildeman.

Later in that at-bat, Mary Kate Brown ripped an RBI double to the right field wall to score Tremere Harris and push the Bears in front 2-1.

The Hogs were then unable to push across runs in the sixth and seventh innings, with Jordan Johnson striking out Cylie Halvorson to end the game, securing the upset win for the Bears.

Johnson picked up the win for UCA in what was a pitchers duel with Arkansas' Chenise Delce. Johnson allowed one earned run on five hits in her complete game performance, while Delce allowed two earned runs on four hits and struck out 10 batters in a complete game as well.

Up next for Arkansas is the start of SEC play, with the Hogs hosting Texas A&M for a three-game series starting Friday.
