Harris and Portis Valuable Additions To Razorbacks

The departure of BJ Young and Marshawn Powell hasn’t effected the Hogs. With players like Alandise Harris and Bobby Portis the team has improved in the post.

Last year the University of Arkansas was a two-person basketball team. BJ Young and Marshawn Powell carried the load of the scoring and rebounding. This year's team doesn't seem to miss them too much.

"We're getting some guys that are starting to play at a high level," said head coach Mike Anderson.  "What I mean by high level, I mean good basketball. The more guys you get playing at that high level then your team really gets better."

Two of those guys who are playing at a high level are Alandise Harris and Bobby Portis, new editions to the Razorback team. Harris is a transfer from the University of Houston.

"Alandise is one of those guys that other guys can lean on," said Anderson.  "I mean, he's been around the block. He gives a level of toughness and experience."

Portis is a freshman, a five-star recruit from Little Rock.

"He's listening on everything you tell him,"  said Anderson.  "If there's something you tell him he can't do, well, hes going to show you he's capable of doing it."

Harris and Portis are averaging a little more than 13 and 11 points per game respectively.

They also feed off each.

"He's got a great short range on him," said forward Alandise Harris.  "He can hit them corner shots all of the time. He can hit a three every now and then."

"He's always taking it to the goal," said center Bobby Portis.  "He's just a beast down there, coming off the bench or starting."

"That's just something I bring to the table," said Harris.  "It's just something I'm born with."

Arkansas hosts Savannah State Thursday at 7 p.m.
