Game Day Blog: Arkansas Avoids Shutout With O’Grady TD

Live Updates From Arkansas At #1 Alabama

FINAL: Alabama 48, Arkansas 7

You can read a full game recap here.

14:52, 4th Quarter – John Stephen Jones has his first career touchdown hitting CJ O’Grady from eight yards out. It won’t be a shutout in Tuscaloosa tonight. Alabama 48, Arkansas 7

7:26, 3rd Quarter – If you’re looking for little wins, you got one with Alabama failing to end a drive with points. Taulia Tagovailoa is now in at quarterback. The freshman brother of Tua moves the chains a little bit but can’t finish with anything on the scoreboard. Hogs take over on the 15-yard line.

10:56, 3rd Quarter – John Stephen Jones started the second half for the Hogs, but it wasn’t much better than anything that’s happened so far. His first play ended in a sack and things didn’t improve from there. Alabama will start the drive on their 22-yard line.

12:38, 3rd Quater – Mac Jones hits third touchdown pass of the game on a beautiful deep pass to Jerry Jeudy on the 40-yard long haul. The second half isn’t looking any prettier for the Hogs at Alabama continues to hammer down. Alabama 48, Arkansas 0

0:00, 2nd Quarter – Nobody was expecting a huge upset in Tuscaloosa, but things are just as bad as they can be in Alabama. The Crimson Tide hold Arkansas scoreless at the half, and now the biggest question comes out of who will start the second half at quarterback. With a blowout, most would expect some of the younger guys to get playing time. John Stephen has seen two snaps so far – will Morris take out Starkel?

0:07, 2nd Quarter – John Stephen Jones comes in for one play, and for some mysterious reason Starkel comes right back in only for things to end in the worst way. Trevon Diggs picks off Starkel and takes in back 84 yards for the touchdown. When you thought things were bad, they’re getting worse in Tuscaloosa. Alabama 41, Arkansas 0

2:36, 2nd Quarter – The defense holds Alabama to a field goal when Bumper Pool and Scoota Harris get the third down stop. While you never want a team to score in any way, three points is always better than seven, so that’s some sort of win. Alabama 34, Arkansas 0

4:24, 2nd Quarter – Starkel has his second interception of the game when Patrick Surtain picked him off and returned the ball for 24 yards. The Crimson Tide will once again take over in Arkansas territory at the 25-yard line as the defense looks to get some sort of stop.

9:57, 2nd Quarter – It’s Alabama’s world and we’re just living in it. It only takes four plays for the Crimson Tide to find their familiar home of the endzone when Najee Harris rushed over the left tackle for a one-yard score. Things are continuing to look bleak for the Razorbacks. Alabama 31, Arkansas 0

11:27, 2nd Quarter – Coming into this game, Arkansas had to capitalize on every opportunity. So far, the Hogs haven’t done much of anything. The Hogs stepped out-of-bounds on kickoff to put them in a bad position starting the drive. Not much happens and the Tide will take over on the 48-yard line.

12:25, 2nd Quarter – The Tide connect on some explosive plays for big yards, and finish it off with a short TD run by Najee Harris. It doesn’t matter what they do, Arkansas can’t stop it. Alabama 24-Arkansas 0

14:41, 2nd Quarter – The Arkansas offense can’t get anything started, and a possible pass interference flag isn’t thrown, so the Hogs start the second quarter with a three and out

0:34, 1st Quarter – Alabama continues to pile on the scoreboard, which is a surprise to almost nobody. Jones hits Jerry Jeudy and Montaric Brown couldn’t tackle him short of the goal line, another 14-yard rush and Alabama leads Arkansas 17-0.

2:16, 1st Quarter – The Alabama defense is continuing to get the turnovers. Starkel is intercepted by Jennings and now the Crimson Tide pick things up again on the Arkansas 48-yard line.

4:03, 1st Quarter – Mac Jones has his first touchdown pass of the game when he hits Henry Ruggs III for the 14 yard completion in the endzone. Both drives have now ended in points for the Crimson Tide while the Hogs still sit on a goose egg. Alabama 10, Arkansas 0

4:10, 1st Quarter – We’re starting to see why Alabama is the top-ranked team. The Crimson Tide recovered a fumble that Harris took back 37 yards to the 14-yard line. Alabama is now in the red zone off of its turnover.

5:16, 1st Quarter – John Stephen Jones had his first throw of the season in Arkansas’ second drive. He hit Rakeem Boyd for a ten-yard pass. He only lasts one play as Nick Starkel re-enters.

5:53, 1st Quarter – It’s first down after first down in Tuscaloosa. Many were wondering how Mac Jones would make his debut and while he made some big plays, it wasn’t enough to end the drive with a touchdown. That’s a huge win for the Razorback defense, expecially Gabe Richardson who made a big stop on 3rd and 9. The Crimson Tide settle for a Joseph Bulovas 31-yard field goal. Alabama 3, Arkansas 0

12:20, 1st Quarter – The first drive was graced by Rakeem Boyd on a 22 yard rush, but the Hogs couldn’t do much in Alabama territory. Alabama starts the drive on its own 17-yard line.

15:00, 1st Quarter – Alabama won the toss and defers. Arkansas will receive. The quarterback carousel continues with Nick Starkel starting for the Hogs after Ben Hicks started against Auburn last week.

Arkansas is still winless in the SEC in Chad Morris era and now will look to get anything done at #1 Alabama.
