FORT SMITH (KFSM)- It has been a decade since professional basketball player Sonny Weems shot a basket in the Stubblefield Center, but today as a special guest to help a youth skills camp. He got to take a trip down memory lane.

"It's a really good feeling I haven't been back here you know in four, five, six years I can't even really remember," said Weems.  "It brings back a whole bunch of memories you know coming back. Walking through the locker room coming in here seeing the banner of our championship team. I'm really excited about being here."

Weems was apart of the team that won the Junior College national championship for the Lions back in 2006, he went on to play two seasons with the Hogs, and from their he started his N-B-A career. He thought his legacy wouldn't be remembered here. But to his surprise the town has kept it alive..

"They was actually excited I didn't think people would be this excited about it," said Weems. "Because I haven't been here in a long time. Just seeing these guys and kids remember me and my time being here man it kind of put a smile on my face."

For head men's basketball coach Josh Newman he has made sure to let keep Weems memory alive.

"What he doesn't realize is that is that we talk about Sonny Weems all the time," said Newman. " It's not everyday that you have an NBA player come through your campus or come through your community, 10 years ago he played here. So we bring this up with kids here all the time about what it takes hard work and Sonny is very loyal and we talk about loyalty as well."
