Burns Earns 4A Coach Of The Year Honors

Ozark coach led Hillbillies to 12-3 season and berth in state championship game.

Jeremie Burns was biding his time to become a head coach.

When he finally got his chance after 13 years as an assistant, Burns took full advantage.

Burns led Ozark to the 4A state championship game this season and a 12-3 record. He was named the Farm Bureau Coach of the Year for his efforts.

“It is a great reflection on the boys, assistant coaches and things like that,” Burns said. “For anybody to get honors, whether it be the boys or the coaches so it’s been a great year.”

In two seasons at the helm of the Hillbillies, Burns has compiled a 21-5 record and also won the 4A-1 title in 2011. Despite earning the award, Burns was quick to point the reason for the success at his 26 seniors.

“Starting with those seniors, they set the tone early,” Burns said. “Their work ethic all along has been great and to cap it off, finishing in the finals and the state championship game, it’s been a great year.

“Just their work ethic. They come to practice every day. You didn’t have to hunt them down. During the summer time, they were here early to get their work outs in and also a real smart group. They excel in the classroom and were able to comprehend a lot of the stuff we were able to do.”
