FAYETTEVILLE (KFSM)- Wednesday was game-two against Grambling State, the Hogs were on a quest to win their fifth straight game in a row and they accomplished that today after beating the Tiger 3-2.

Arkansas now improves 15-3 overall while Grambling State’s record drops down to 4-11 overall.

This mid-week game was not about the hits, Arkansas only managed to muster four hits in nine innings, but they did enough late in the eighth to secure their win.

After three innings Arkansas led 2-0, but Grambling State rallied back in the fourth inning when they were up to bat. Tigers’ Tray Bell tied the game 2-2 after he got a two-run home run. The score remained the same until the bottom of the eighth when Daren Simms advanced to third on an error and scored on a wild pitch, giving the Hogs the 3-2 lead going into the ninth.

Arkansas Senior pitcher Doug Willey got the save of the game for striking out two hitters at the bottom of the ninth to keep the game from going into extra innings. Pitcher Josh Alberius got his first win of the season for striking out four in two innings and not allowing any hits.

After a long stay at Baum the Razorbacks will be starting into the long awaited SEC play this weekend. The Hogs will be taking on the number-16 ranked South Carolina in Columbia for a three-game series. This will be tough test for Arkansas, because just like them the Gamecocks have a really good record leading into SEC play. South Carolina is 16-2 overall and they have not lost a single game at home this season (14-0).

Friday’s conference opener is set for 6:30 p.m. CT in Columbia, South Carolina.
