Arkansas Gymbacks Ranked 10th, Grable No.1

Arkansas gymnastics boasts a top ten ranking but is also home to the best gymnast in the country.

It's only two weeks into the season and the University of Arkansas gymnastics is already a top 10 team. Even more impressive, senior Katherine Grable is ranked as the No. 1 gymnast in the country.  This marks the second time Grable has achieved No. 1 status, but that doesn't get to her head.

"She loves gymnastics. She loves to perform," said head coach Mark Cook.  "She handles that so well that it doesn't phase her at all."
"My mother always told me no matter how far you go to always be humble about everything," said senior Katherine Grable.
Grable may be humble, but she's worked hard to be the best."Compared to last year I really got my head right," said Grable.  "Everything in the gym is very organized as far as landings and what I want to do that day."There's no better way to describe Grable other than she's one of a kind.

"Katherine has that special gift and she's worked hard to develop it," said Cook.  "She just has natural ability and awareness of where she's at and what she's doing.  She's a very polished young athlete."

Even though Grable is their leader, the success of the Gymbacks this year doesn't fall all on her shoulders.

"The freshman are fantastic this year," said Grable.  "They came in with so much talent and they came in determined and ready to work.  The rest of the team came in the same way and we are all just really excited."

"Every year you're not sure what the chemistry is going to be like," said Cook.  "I guess the pleasant surprise for this year is the team has really connected. They're all in. They're best friends and they really look out for each other."

The Gymbacks travel to the 7th ranked University of Alabama on Friday as they look to improve on their No. 10 ranking.
