POTEAU, Okla. (KFSM) — Crews landed a helicopter on Highway 112 in Poteau after a teenager jumped off of a bridge into oncoming traffic on Friday (Dec. 27).
According to LeFlore County Sheriff's Office, traffic was blocked as crews gave aide to the 13-year-old girl from Poteau.
First responders were trying to get to the teen, but she jumped before they were able to. She was immediately hit by a 2017 Dodge Durango driving in the southbound lane.
The helicopter landed on the highway just before 3:30 p.m. Friday.
The incident happened at the intersection of Highway 59 and Highway 112 near Walmart in Poteau.
The teen was life-flighted to St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa. According to police, officers noted injuries to the lower extremities and multiple cuts and abrasions. They do not have a full assessment of injuries she sustained at this time or her current condition.
